Shetland League

Ages 5-6


Shetland league or Tee Ball is an instructional based league formatted for children ages five and six years old.  Peters Twp. Baseball Association has formatted the league to emphasize basic instruction in all aspects of fundamental baseball in addition to regular game play.  To help develop the overall skill of each player a thirty to forty minute instructional session has been incorporated into the regular game format.  This instruction session will focus on basic throwing, fielding, hitting and base running skill.  All of our sessions are led by the team managers and developed by professional trainers and coaches specifically for this age group.  A typical game format will include the thirty minute instructional session followed by a three inning game.  All the innings allow for situational instruction while the first is formatted for the kids to hit from the tee, the remaining innings are "coach pitch".  This format utilizes both hitting concepts and maximizes fundamental hitting development. 

All children participate, and trophies are awarded at the end of each season.  Uniform shirts, hats and socks are provided under the registration fee.  Pants, gloves and bat's are not provided and personal helmets are recommended however helmets are provided by PTBA.  Uniforms and lottery books will be handed out by each teams manager at the first practice.  The Shetland season runs from May 1st through June 30th.  Games are scheduled for two hours each and are mainly played at Venetia Field.  A sixteen game schedule typically includes one weekday game played at 6pm and one weekend game played between 10am and 6pm Saturday or 1pm and 3pm Sunday.  This schedule format usually does not interfere with participation in other Peters Twp. recreational sports activity however some minor overlap can occur.
