Age Cutoff Date Change
USA Baseball, the primary governing body of baseball in the United States, has adopted a new date to determine a child's playing age for organized baseball. The PTBA has decided that this new date will be applied to all leauges starting with the 2006 season. The league age determination date is the age a player has attained as of a specific date, for the purpose of placing the player in a particular league. The old date in baseball was July 31. Starting with the 2006 season, the date in all leagues will be April 30 of the current year/season.

If a parent wishes to petition the PTBA board for a waiver to allow their child to play in a league other that the league designated by the child's birthdate, they must do so in writing by February 15th, 2006. Each request will be decided upon on an individual basis.

Per the PTBA By-Laws:
Review requests by parents for their child to play in a league that is of a different age than the designated league for the child’s age group. Such requests are granted on a case-by-case basis. The board may use a tryout, interviews with past managers or coaches, or any other means the board decides would assist in the decision to allow a player to play in a league outside of the child’s playing age. If permission is granted for a child to play in an age group with younger players, the player will not be eligible for tournament team selection.
Background and Child Abuse Clearance Checks
The Peters Township Parks and Recreation department has implemented a policy that requires criminal background and child abuse clearance checks for all participants in any Peters Township sponsored program. It is STRONGLY recommended that ANY adult who plans on managing, coaching, or helping out in any way complete these checks prior to the start of the 2006 season. The appropriate forms can be found on the Handouts and Forms page.

Download, print, and complete both forms. Submit the Criminal Background Check form (along with a $10 money order) first. Once you have received the processed form, send a copy of it along with the Child Abuse Background Check form. After both forms have been processed and returned to you, take a copy to the Parks & Rec department.
